Sometimes your life can be affected greatly by something that happens very far away. With modern technology you can be virtually connected with all the world and your potential sphere of influence grows accordingly. Also I noticed that in life you tend to elect some key places as your safe points, the areas where you can return to and get support or simply friendship every time you need it.

Castello di Mazzè near Turin - courtesy luxuryproperty.com

They don’t need to be close to where you live and actually they can be quite far away. Maybe you don’t even realize that you have elected these special places as your “sanctuary”, namely the spot where you can return and rest, while feeling protected and “at home”. Maybe you haven’t been there for quite a while and you simply forgot about them or they are so far away an “unreachable” that you feel as almost they don’t exist anymore.

They could be the house where you were born and raised or they could be any other location. For me, after I left Italy and my original town and moved to the US about 15 months ago, there was no special place like that. I felt I had abandoned my home town forever and my life was going to bring me in new places and new adventures. The visa procedures also restrict my motions inside and outside of the US and so I concentrated in make myself more comfortable in the place where I am right now.

But yesterday I suddenly realized I do have two places I can call my home and where I can find people who will be there to help me if I need to and that will also have the capability of doing so. Realizing it brought me a sudden relief and I felt so much more cheerful and strong. We all need one or more place that we can consider our castle, a place where we can return in case of trouble or just for fun and reconnecting with old friends and allies. A place where we feel protected from anything and that nobody will be able to take away from us.

It’s like the old Middle Age knights: they would roam the country protecting people and fighting enemies but they always had a castle they could return to, where they would find peers and backup, rest safe against enemy attack and get trained. I believe every one of us needs it.

So yesterday I discovered I have two: one is in the Caribbean, on a ship regularly cruising the islands there. A ship where I have some very close friends that will stand by me in case of any trouble. I got am unexpected phone call from one of them just yesterday and she reminded me I can always count on them, and this was just great. They will be able to give me the type of personal support I feel I need to continue in my adventure right now.

The second place is in Italy, in a location I didn’t even expect that could become my new “home”. It is in Turin, in the North of Italy. It is the place where my Italian partner and friend Daniele Bogiatto has his residence and has setup his business operations. Yesterday I have a very long phone conversation with him and we covered some amazing projects that will simply rock the real estate investing world in the US and much more than that. Yesterday we also begun the first meeting of a long series: every Tuesday at 9 a.m. (EST) from now on I will be on the phone with him came hail or high water.

I know that I have a whole team of professionals and a brilliant partner that are working everyday from Turin and all over Europe to develop the same projects I am also developing here in the US. I know we will stick together no matter what and that we’ll be there to support each other.

I am building my own organization in the US, but knowing there is a whole team working with me and for me in Turin makes all the difference. And Turin is the perfect stronghold: this is where the Italian unification war began in the Nineteenth Century and this has been the first capital of modern Italy. It is a place where major changes can begun and accomplished on a vast scale. And this time we want to bring together two different continents.
