In the last couple of days I have been preparing the planning for the new year with my business associate Daniele Bogiatto and I can see it is going to be an explosive progression. Tomorrow I will have a strategic meeting in Tampa with a person that will play a very definite role in the expansion of our projects in the US, Mark Jackson. I will unfold this extraordinary adventure on my blog as we will execute it, but I today I want to borrow some words from Seth Godin, a very famous author, blogger and speaker. He has just published an eBook titled “What matters now”. I suggest you get a copy of it, but I want to quote it’s first page, written by Godin himself.

The title is “Generosity” and I quote: “When the economy tanks, it’s natural to think of yourself first. You have a family to feed and a mortgage to pay. Getting more appears to be the order of business”.
You see it at every turn: people trying to get a second job, to get more money out of the job they already have or engaging in any kind of selling activity that could bring them some financial release and stability. The first question they ask of themselves is: “What is in it for me?”
Yet as Godin writes: “It turns out that the connected economy doesn’t respect this natural instinct” Instead, we are rewarded for being generous”. And if you think carefully, you will that it applies very well also to the traditional economy. You don’t necessarily have always to give away things for free, in order to be attractive, but you can provide advice, attention and knowledge.
These are all valuable to people and when you offer them, they will always prefer to give their business to you rather than somebody else. The tradesman that comes into your house and points out the “horrible work” that somebody else did and tries to convince you that you basically need to rebuild your house, isn’t going to win most of the time.
You will give your business to the guy that will come in and point out what really needs to be repaired and find the best way to do it with you spending the least money on it or viceversa getting the best value.
So be generous and life will pay you back.
