Automatic writing versus original text

Internet Marketing 13 Comments »

Article marketing is one of the most effective tools for driving traffic to your site and for making yourself known on the Web, yet this tool must be used properly. There are software and sites that promote automatic article generation. They spin multiple articles starting from a single template so that the quantity “fools” Google into believing there is more original content than in reality. This approach can be effective as a SEO technique (search engine optimization) but you definitely cannot show this content to the public and you cannot present it to the main articles directories either.

On the other side, original content, written directly by you or by a writer that you trust closely, will always stand out and in the long run will bring steady and reliable traffic. Quantity is important anyhow. There are very many article marketers out there and therefore you need to pierce through the barrier of the competition. One way of doing it is to be consistent with your submissions.

If you decide to write and publish one article a day, be consistent and do produce one article a day. If you can produce only an article a week, at least stick with that frequency. Be careful to check your spelling and grammar because article directories are going to scrutinize carefully you product and also make sure you are not copying anybody else’s content.

There are also sites that allow you to submit to a number of directories at the same time. They can be a convenient way to multiply your coverage, but be aware of the fact that some of the sites touched by these automatic submission engines exist mainly for the purpose of stealing your content.

A good article length should be between 250 and 400 words. Actually the shorter articles are usually preferred. You will have to read the instructions given by the main article directories so that you don’t get rejections. The average article marketer writes only 10 articles, therefore you can beat the average in less then a month. The top article marketers range around 900 articles, which is basically the work of 3 years, producing approximately one article a day.

Referring back to the “Art Of Money Getting” by P.T. Barnum, rule number 8 says: “Learn something useful” and article marketing is definitely something you can use and that other people can easily benefit from.

When “everything” seems to go wrong

Business Tips 2 Comments »

Running a business is a very challenging and engrossing task. Everything rests on your shoulders: you need to produce, to collect money, to study, to network and to promote. All of this has to progress at the same time and you are also responsible of ensuring that priorities are met and that the people working with you of for you are doing the right thing at the right time; and on top of it you are also supposed to have a life.

As challenging as it may seem, it is the only way of life that people like me enjoy: the feeling that you are building your future every day and that even when you fail, you were the ultimate and only source of your failure. But there is usually a point where you can be fooled in my experience. You have just overcome some major initial barrier and you are now able to perform something you were not able to do before, and yet now all kind of unexpected complications show up and it seems that you have just opened a can of worm.

Two critical tools: video and people

Storytelling 10 Comments »

America is the land of systems and indeed much work can be done by using computers and automatic tools, but since they are available to many, I am afraid that the “people component” remains one of the single true differentiating factors. It can be the people using the system or the people that appear in your message.

The most “personal” type of media today is definitely video. It communicates the reality of the event just as it is, with all the characters involved, the surrounding scenario, the emotions and the comments. Some just don’t feel confident with this medium and don’t use it or use it occasionally. Yet it is very powerful and if the information or situation you provide has some unique value and can be attractive to the public you are targeting, you shouldn’t worry too much about the quality of lighting, the perfection or you speech or the steadiness of the image.

Some of the best video bloggers actually suggest to never edit your videos at all, but use intead the first take and just make sure you feel as authentic as possible. If you don’t feel like shooting straight video, there are sites that produce very neat animations starting from your still images. Animoto.com is one example, Slide.com is another one.

Running out of trouble

Storytelling 18 Comments »

Today I have begun my running routine under the training one of the best running coaches in Italy. I have been running with my kids and it has been a double pleasure. We skirted around a gold course that is near my house in Florida and we also watched some of the players: really a great time.

My coach is coaching me from a distance, via e-mail, and the sole fact that I have a routine to follow for actually keeping myself healthy is a wonderful thing. I have purchased the right shoes. I didn’t realize there are different types of running shoes for any type of foot. I have gone to a local sport apparel shop and I have found a very competent young man who got me walking and swinging and standing still, and who by the sole observation of my gait was able to determine what was needed for me.

This is the kind of professional service one expects from any type of business. The competence must be so high that by only looking or listening to your costumer you should be able to know right then what is good for her. And as a matter of fact the shop where I went to buy my running shoes is always busy, despite it being relatively small, kind of hidden inside a secondary mall.

Returning on the right path

Business Tips 2 Comments »

There are so many alternatives today and the personal lives and business lives of people become so complicated over time that it seems almost impossible to chose the right path or much less maintain one. A good percentage of the people I talk with in these days are trying to get away from something: a too heavy familial routine, a job that has become too burdensome, a difficult financial situation, a bad personal experience, and so on.

When I meet somebody who has a plan and who is actually convinced it is the right one, I know I am talking with a potentially successful person and that I want to associate with her. Yet no matter how much care we place in selecting our correct path, there is a definite challenge in not abandoning it.

In the world of marketing and Internet marketing they use mostly numbers and testing procedures to establish whether they are going North or South. In normal life there are not always numbers we can add up and when we have them we seldom take the time to bother.
